Range
(Europe)

Sea bream range north towards southern British shores in the summer months as the water warms and are more abundant the further south the longitude.

 
 


Habitat

Warm water. The younger fish tends to feed relatively close to the surface with the older fish delving towards the sea bed.

 
 


Best Baits

Rembering that the sea bream is a small fish with a small mouth, the bait needs to be small, small pieces of fish or ragworm.

 
 


Biology

Sea brem spawn in late spring in warm, shallow waters before drifting north as they grow, some travelling several hundreds of miles. The younger the fish, the closer to the surface they are, feeding on plankton.

 
 


Identification

Silver on its flanks, with a dark back, sea bream do not look like their fresh water name-sakes, being small, wide bodied and carrying a long dorsal fin. Red bream have a red back with a black spot above the pectoral fin.
