Widespread throughout British waters

 
 


Habitat

Prefers sandy bottom sea bed and is often found in shallower water, although relatively rare to catch from the shore.

 
 


Best Baits

Mackeral Strip, Ragworm, Lugworm, and Peeler crab are all great baits.

 
 


Biology

This is one of the largest of the gurnard, although the flying gurnard is larger.

 
 


Identification

Commonly reddish in colour, and similar to all the Gurnard, it has very large pectoral fins.
